Monday 8/17

Measuring Speed.  Students will measure out a certain distance along the road in front of the school next to the bus drop/pick-up to measure the speed of 5 cars.  Student volunteers will run to measure their speed as well.

Assignment:  Graph the data from cars and runners.

Vocabulary:  Variable

OBJ:  PASS --  2-1 --  The motion of an object can be measured.   PASS –  Report and record both quantitative/qualitative data in an appropriate method when given an experimental procedure or data.

Tuesday 8/18

Calculating Speed & Correct Units of Measure.  Begin by starting an equations page in notebook.. Dry erase board work for speed.  Students will be given several practice word problems to calculate and put on dry erase board (assess).

Speed = Distance/Time

Assignment:  10 practice problems

Vocabulary:  Independent Variable

OBJ:  PASS --  2-1 --  The motion of an object can be measured.   PASS –  Report and record both quantitative/qualitative data in an appropriate method when given an experimental procedure or data.

Wednesday 8/19

The Great Race Lab.  Students will be using a ball and ramps to see how changing the angle of the ramp will affect the speed of the ball.

Vocabulary:  Dependent Variable

Assignment:  Carrying out the Lab and Filling out a Data Table.

OBJ:  PASS:  Provide evidence that an object’s motion is changing.  Report Data in an appropriate method.   PASS:  Identify qualitative and/or quantitative changes given conditions before, during, and after an event.

Thursday 8/20

Accelerating Masses (Acceleration of a Static Object).  2 Day Lab.  Students will be using the same ball and ramps from Wednesday to measure how the ball accelerates on varied angles of ramps.  Students will be calculating the speed on the top half of the ramp versus the bottom half to calculate the acceleration

Assignment:  Complete Lab.  Fill out data table and report data in a graph.

Vocabulary:  Acceleration

OBJ:  Provide evidence that an object’s motion is changing.  Report Data in an appropriate method.   (NEW)  Identify qualitative and/or quantitative changes given conditions before, during, and after an event.

Friday 8/21

Accelerating Masses (Acceleration of a Moving Object) Check Week 1 Bell Work.  Move tables in to roll ball 1 m on desk to a 1 m ramp downward to measure acceleration of a moving object.

Assignment:  Finish Lab.

OBJ:  OBJ:  Provide evidence that an object’s motion is changing.  Report Data in an appropriate method.   (NEW)  Identify qualitative and/or quantitative changes given conditions before, during, and after an event.
